According to a new report from The Verge, a Mac app called Calendar 2 has been mining cryptocurrency by default without telling users. Apple has also known about the issue for 24 hours now but has taken no action against the app.
The app is supposed to have an opt-in feature that allows users to choose an option that mines cryptocurrency in the background to unlock paid features. However, the app has been bugged and has been mining Monero coin by default.
Regardless Qbix, the creators of Calendar 2, has decided to remove the feature from the app. Founder Gregory Maharshak said that the rollout of the cryptocurrency mining option has been buggy and produced a sub-par user experience.
Even though the feature has been removed from the app, it remains to be unseen as to how Apple will treat situations like this in the future.
